The “Stitch and Study” quilting ministry serves the local congregation and community by providing quilts that bring comfort and the assurance that we are praying for them and care about them

The ministry provides small bereavement quilts for the Labor and Delivery department of Piedmont Hospital and lap quilts and throws for patients.  One of our favorite quilts to make is the “I Spy” quilt which is used for young children facing procedures and tests.  The children are distracted from their worries as they look for items or colors in these bright, cheerful quilts.  We also provide throw-sized quilts for adults who may have few visitors and lengthy hospital stays.  Our goal is to follow Christ’s teaching found in Matthew 25:40:  Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

We are excited to offer new services in the coming year.  First, we seek to provide quilts to for members of our own congregation.  We are also joining with the Quilts of Valor Foundation in providing quilts and quilting services for Veterans and active-duty military personnel.

We have a new location for our ministry which allows us to greatly expand our ministry.  We now have space for discussion and Bible study groups as well as designated areas for instruction, sewing, hand quilting, and machine quilting, along with plenty of room to design new layouts.  There’s even space to just relax with a cup of tea.

There is a place for anyone with an interest in supporting this ministry.  We need help with

  • Fabric storage maintenance

  • Cutting fabric for quilters

  • Ironing

  • Machine piecing

  • Hand-sewing bindings

  • Group discussion

The group currently meets on Mondays with sessions beginning at 1:00 and 4:00 PM.  The quilting facility is open from noon until 8:00 p.m., so drop-ins are always welcome!  Additional classes and events are planned, so check back often to see what’s on the schedule.  Phone 706-366-4536 for information.
