Music Ministries at First Baptist Church

of Columbus

At First Baptist Church, our worship ministry is a vibrant expression of praise to God through music. Rooted in tradition, we sing from hymn books and our choir performs anthems accompanied by organ, piano, or both. We also embrace contemporary music, incorporating acoustic guitar and various instruments to enrich our worship experience.

EMBRACING WORSHIP THROUGH MUSIC

Embodying scripture's call to worship, we believe in singing praises to God. The Psalms instruct us to sing, and Ephesians 5:19 urges us to "make music in your heart to the Lord." Worship is an integral part of our fellowship with God, and we encourage everyone to use their gifts for His glory.

GET INVOLVED

If you're interested in getting involved, contact Keenan Franklin, Minister of Music and Worship, (kfranklin@firstbaptistcolumbusga.com) or by calling the church office. You can join our Adult Choir, which rehearses on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:00 pm in the music suite. We also offer opportunities for children's choirs (ages 3-5 and 1st-5th grade) and handbell ringing.

ADULT CHOIR

Our Adult Choir welcomes volunteers of all ages, ranging from mid-20s to 80s. While most members are not soloists, they share a passion for choral singing and leading our church family in worship. We rehearse intentionally to offer our best as a gift to God, presenting special events throughout the year.

CHILDREN'S CHOIR

Children's Choir is a vital part of our worship ministry, nurturing young voices to lift praises to God. Led by Mrs. Babbs Douglas, children from 1st-5th grades meet on Wednesday evenings to learn about music and prepare songs for worship.

KOART SCHOLARS

The Koart Scholar program, initiated in 2006, supports music students from Columbus State University's Schwob School of Music. Through scholarships, interns contribute to our music ministry, participating in various choirs and ensembles. This program prepares students for music ministry in the local church while enriching our worship with their talents.

For more information on the Koart Scholars program or to inquire about applying, please contact Keenan Franklin (kfranklin@firstbaptistcolumbusga.com).

HANDBELLS AND ENSEMBLES

Our Handbell Choir and Adult Ensemble add depth and variety to our worship services with challenging pieces and smaller group performances. These groups provide opportunities for members to share their musical talents and contribute to our worship experience.

Join us as we lift our voices in praise and worship through music, glorifying God and inspiring our congregation.
